Air Attack Instrumental in Stopping Rehmke Road Fire

A structure fire spread to nearby vegetation Wednesday afternoon, burning 164 acres off Rehmke Road east of Tonasket. The fire was reported around 1:30pm. Ground crews were aided by air support from four fire boss planes as well as two heavy air tankers.

Level three evacuations notices were issued for the Howell Canyon and Barker Mountain Roads about 2:30pm. Fire officials had a line around the fire by about 6pm and DNR official said it was staffed overnight. Two structures were lost in the fire, including the one that started the blaze.
