Local lawmakers to host telephone town hall

Jan 22, 2020

Sen. Shelly Short and Reps. Joel Kretz and Jacquelin Maycumber are inviting seventh district constituents to join them for a telephone townhall on Feb. 5 to talk about the 2020 legislative session and hear about what issues matter most to them.

The hour-long community conversation will begin at 6 p.m.

Only households with landlines will receive an invitation phone call, so residents wanting to participate via cell phone or from somewhere other than their home may call (509) 253-8574.

“This is a great way for us to hear from the folks at home,” said Short, R-Addy. “I look forward to sharing details of the work we’ve been doing in Olympia during the legislative session and hearing from community members on what issues are important to them.”

“One of my top priorities as a legislator is ensuring government is more accessible and accountable to the public,” said Maycumber, R-Republic. “Telephone town hall meetings give us the opportunity to hear direct feedback from the people we serve. They are also a wonderful way for our communities to stay on top of news and events at the state Capitol.”

“These events give us the opportunity to provide you with an update on the things we’re working on in Olympia, and to talk about the public policy being introduced this session,” said Kretz, R-Wauconda. “We appreciate that this platform gives folks back home the opportunity to hear from us from the comfort of their own home.”

The event is much like a radio call-in program. Callers who have a question will press the STAR * key on their telephone keypads. As their turn comes up, callers will be “live” and can ask their question of Sen. Short and Reps. Kretz and Maycumber.
