Methow Valley Ranger District will host a meeting September 7, 2011 to share information about the Forest Plan Revision process for the 4-million-acre national forest.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:00-8:00 pm at the Twisp Grange, 344 West 2nd Avenue, in Twisp, Washington. It will provide an opportunity to learn about Forest Service proposals for long-term management of the Okanogan-Wenatchee N.F. The meeting will also include information about ways to provide substantive comments, how comments will be used in this process and future opportunities for involvement.

The National Forest Management Act of 1976 directs national forests to revise Forest Plans when conditions have substantially changed, or typically on a 10 to 15-year cycle. The existing Forest Plan for the Okanogan-Wenatchee N.F. has reached its intended 15-year cycle.

"A series of public meetings about the Forest Plan Revision process for the Colville and Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forests have been held around the state," said Mike Liu, Methow Valley District Ranger. "I've requested this meeting in Twisp to provide a local opportunity for residents to learn more about the proposal for how to manage National Forest Lands in the Methow Valley and across the Okanogan-Wenatchee and Colville National Forests."

Written comments on the proposed action for the revised Forest Plan are due September 28, 2011.

Forest Service representatives at the meetings will provide a brief presentation about the proposed action for the Forest Plan Revision and the public comment process, followed by a question and answer session. Natural resource specialists will also be available in smaller groups to answer specific questions about vegetation management, motorized and non-motorized access, wildlife habitat, wilderness area recommendations and fire suppression.
