Okanogan County Child Development Association (OCCDA) is excited to announce that we are now an approved affiliate for The Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program and are currently accepting registrations for the program.

The Imagination Library is a book-gifting program that supports early literacy by mailing free, age-appropriate, high quality, new books each month to registered children from birth until their 5th birthday. All funding for the local Imagination Library program is raised through charitable contributions.

Okanogan County is the largest geographic county in Washington State covering 5,315 square miles and nearly 8% of Washington State’s land area. Both this rural layout and low population density often create barriers to a family's access to public libraries. The Imagination Library helps bridge these gaps by delivering an opportunity for literacy and family reading directly to a child’s home each month. Many of the books in the Imagination Library provide an insert with custom guided activities endorsed by the United Way to support and encourage interaction by the parent/caregiver, an essential tool to enhance the experience of the whole family in sharing the joy of reading together.

Since its start in 1996, the Dolly Parton Foundation's Imagination Library has mailed over 114 million books to children in affiliate communities across the US and internationally. We are proud to offer this unique program locally, providing the youngest members of our communities with an opportunity to build a foundation of literacy and launch their lifelong pursuit of learning.
