Omak Police Officer Injured in Collision with Cattle Truck

Feb 20, 2019

An Omak police officer sustained minor injuries Tuesday, when his patrol car was struck by a cattle truck in the intersection of Highway 97 and Engh Road.

Washington State Patrol says Officer Darren Duncan was responding to an injury collision on Engh Road at the main entrance to Walmart when he was hit by the truck and both vehicles came to rest blocking the southbound lanes of the Highway.

Duncan was transported to Mid-Valley Hospital. Omak Police Chief Jeff Koplin said he received minor bruises and abrasions. Koplin said patrol car sustained major front end damage.

The driver of the semi-truck, 57-year-old Gottfried Senn of Salmon Arm, BC, was not injured.

Southbound Highway 97 was closed for about an hour and a half while the incident was investigated. Traffic was backed up at the light for several hours.

No cause or charges have been determined, and Koplin said the State Patrol was handling the investigation.
