Three people were killed Sunday in an accident about two miles south of Tonasket on Highway 97 that closed the roadway for about five hours.

According to the Washington State Patrol, those killed were 10-year-old Jesse A. Gomez, 4-year-old Chelsea A. Gomez, and 65-year-old Evangelina F. Adalco, all of Brewster.

The three were passengers in a 1987 Ford Taurus driven by 44-year-old Cecilia Aldaco-Frias, of Brewster.

The State Patrol says Aldaco-Frias was northbound about 1:30 pm when her car skidded in slush and spun into the path of a southbound 2006 Ford Freestyle driven by 45-year-old Kathleen N. Thompson, of Tonasket.

The State Patrol says all of the occupants of Aldaco-Frias' vehicle were ejected, and it's unknown if they were wearing seatbelts.

Aldaco-Frias was transported to North Valley Hospital with a broken leg and internal injuries. Thompson and her passenger, 58-year-old Randy J. Thompson, of Tonasket, were transported to North Valley Hospital with unspecified injuries. They were wearing seatbelts, according to the State Patrol.

Both vehicles were destroyed
