Culp Honored As Police Chief of the Decade by Sheriff’s Organization

Press Release

Oct 23, 2019

Republic, Washington Chief of Police Loren Culp, who was the first to announce he would not enforce Washington State’s gun control legislation, has been recognized by The Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA) as Chief of Police of the Decade.

Culp was awarded the honor for “his unprecedented stance for liberty and the example he has set for all peace officers throughout the United States of America in defense of the people’s right to keep and bear arms,” Sheriff Richard Mack, retired Graham County, Arizona Sheriff and founder of the CSPOA said.

Sheriff Mack made the remarks last week at The Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA) awards ceremony in Mesa, Arizona. Mack was Sheriff of Graham County from 1988 to 1996. In 1994, he was sought by the National Rifle Association as a plaintiff in one of nine lawsuits against the Clinton administration over the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act. The suit eventually found its way to the Supreme Court where, in a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that the provisions of the Brady Act in question were unconstitutional.

“Our state and our nation are at a crossroads,” Loren Culp said. “The question facing voters in Washington is do we want to continue to support leaders who continually find new ways to assault our liberties and freedoms, or do we want to elect leaders who actually support and defend the Constitution while making real progress in combatting our state’s most pressing issues?”

“We’ve spent almost a year listening to the voters in Washington and across the nation. Overwhelmingly, the voters we’ve listened to are concerned with the constant assault on our social values, the never-ending efforts to limit our freedoms, and the lack of real solutions for our drug, crime, and mental health challenges,” Culp said. “I am committed to working with members of the state legislature to pass legislation that addresses these and other issues facing our state.”
