Fire crews witnessed active torching and running on the Stickpin Fire all night. Fire growth has significantly expanded in the last 24 hours and the fire spread is to the north-north east.
Ferry County Sheriff’s Office has issued Level 1 Be Ready for voluntary evacuations notifications in from Deer Boulder Creek Road south to the North Saint Peters Creek, Upper Long Alec Creek and Lambert Creek drainages.
Evacuees can use the 6-P checklist – People, Pets, Prescriptions, Papers, Pictures and Personal Computers – to assist with their preparations to leave.
Erratic winds, low relative humidity and isolated thunderstorms pushed through the area last night, and severe fire weather is expected today.
Crews have begun to engage the fire on the west flank due to better access. Firefighters still face the combination of dense standing and down fuels, unstable weather patterns, difficult access, rugged terrain, and no viable escape routes and safety zones except on the west flank at this point.
Full suppression objectives are still in place while providing for firefighter and public safety first.
Residents and visitors can anticipate a highly visible smoke column from the fire and residual smoke in the area. Fire crews are also suppressing at least 35 new fires started from last night’s lightning activity over the area.
