USFS campground hosts needed; Applications now available

Feb 24, 2017

Have you ever thought about living and working in the majestic Cascade Mountains as a national forest campground host?Applications are currently being accepting for 26 host positions in campgrounds across the Forest from the Methow Valley in the north to the Naches area in the south. Waking up to the great outdoors, star-filled night skies, the smell of campfire smoke, and conversations with diverse forest users are just some of the benefits for volunteer campground hosts for the 2017 summer season.

Campground host duties can include welcoming campers, answering questions, assisting campers in locating a campsite and properly reregistering for their site, cleaning fire pits and restrooms, and at times light maintenance.  Hosts work five days a week with weekends and holidays being the busiest times. Most positions are available beginning in May with the season wrapping up in mid-September.

“Hosts are absolutely essential,” said Mary Bean, Forest Recreation Program Manager. “Each one has a wonderful opportunity to help visitors have a safe and enjoyable adventure on the Forest.”

Due to the remote location of many campgrounds, host’s recreational vehicles must be fully self-contained as utilities are not always available. However, water, sanitation and sometimes other amenities are provided.  If hosts are not working out of a guard station or cabin, they are provided a complimentary campsite. They also receive a small daily stipend of $25-$28 to offset the costs of propane and generator fuel.
