Goodall Wins District Tennis Title

Omak's Shaylyn Goodall took home the girls singles medal Saturday, defeating Cascade's Noelle Parten in the girls singles finals at North Cascades Athletic Club. Goodall, who placed 8th at State last year, will be headed to the State Tournament in Yakima this weekend.

Goodall beat Parten in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Earlier in the day in semi-final action, Goodall defeated Emma Palumbo of Chelan, 6-1, 6-2. Palumbo took fourth, falling to Heather Poppie of Chelan in the consolation finals for the final spot to the State tournament. On the girls side the top three finishers advance to state.

On the boys side, Liberty Bell's Manuel Perez took the District title, defeating Chelan's Matt Robinson , 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in the boy's finals. Taking the third place spot is Tonasket's Anthony Verhasselt, who lost to Perez in the semi-final round then won the consolation finals after defeating Omak's Greg Sklar and Cashmere's Warren Robertson. On the boys side the top four places advance to the state tournament.

In Girls doubles action, Chelan's Maghara DePaoli and Megan Robinson won the district title match, defeating their teammates Olivia Plew and Clancy Courtney in straight sets. In the consolation finals, it was Cashmere's Mikela Kowatsch and Tasha Kowatsch taking third place over Tonasket's Megan Beyer and Cayla Monroe, who placed fourth, with the top three finishers advancing to state.

In Boys Doubles, Cashmere's Nathan Sites and Adam Ross took home the championship medal, defeating Gilberto Murillo and Jeremy Davis of Entiat 6-3, 6-2. Okanogan's Jordan Hertlein and Hayden Behrens advanced to state, taking third place after defeating Chelan's Frank Rosas and Dillon Morrison in the consolation finals 6-1, 6-0. Rosas and Morrison will also complete in Yakima this weekend.

The District team titles went to the Cashmere Boys and the Chelan Girls.

The State Tournament gets under way Friday in Yakima.
