Liberty Bell Champions of State B Wrestling

The Liberty Bell Mountain Lions went to the 25th Mat Classic in Tacoma this weekend with nine wrestlers and lofty ambitions. They came home with two individual titles and the team championship in the State B classification. Liberty Bell, led by first year coach Paul Schmekel, easily outdistanced league rival, and overall 2nd place team Lake Roosevelt 112 points to 79. Over 20 schools were represented in the two day tournament inside the Tacoma Dome.

Senior Justin McMillan and Junior Trent Skelton each earned championships in their weight classes while Senior Taylor Woodruff, Junior Milo Holston, Sophomore Emmett Fink and Freshman Jacob McMillan each brought home second place medals. Showing the promise of more to come, underclassmen Merritt Fink, Danny Humiston and Dreyton Acord all wrestled well while being eliminated in the earlier rounds.

This is only the second State Team Championship for the Methow Valley School, the first coming in 1998 when Mountain Lion Boys Cross Country won the combined A/B State Title in Pasco.
